what’s happening in Fort Point?
Current Projects:
Playground anyone?
The FPNA is exploring ways to build a new community playground with help from the city and the playground equipment organization ‘KaBOOM’ out of Washington, DC. KaBoom, which has experience in building playgrounds in Boston, has offered to pay 70% of equipment costs if FPNA can secure the necessary land abnd organize a work party.
We have many new families starting in Fort Point and we NEED to keep these families here to grow and help our neighborhood mature. Currently Fort Point enjoys two existing parks that receive tremendous use from neighbors and dog owners. Both Wormwood Park and Binford Park have become indispensable community amenities we could not live without. However, both parks are extremely small and lack facilities for child play.
Woof ! We need a dog run!!
Fort Point has a significant number of dogs with dog owners eager for a dog park. What little open space we now have is over-utilized and lacks amenities for passive recreation with pets.
With FPNA Backing, an informal group of Fort Point residents have come together to explore how we can expand open space in the neighborhood to meet the needs of our growing community. Although parks and open space are included in the BRA’s 100 Acres Plan, build-out will take a number of years. We find ourselves needing more parks now, on an interim basis.
